Happy’s Home Farm
Happy’s Home Farm was purchased in 2008 to help Happy’s Home become more self sufficient. The land has been carefully turned into paddy fields the last two years and a one mile long irrigation ditch has also been built. In 2010, Happy’s Home will be testing the irrigation and attempting to plant rice in the fields. In the coming years, the land will provide rice for the children. Surplus will be sold or used for relief in the area. Currently, two fulltime workers maintain the farm with additional assistance during the rainy season. Pig Project
The hill tribe people of Burma love to eat pork. When there is a celebration, pork will certainly be served. Typically small black jungle pigs are raised by local villagers. Usually, such pigs take about 2 years until they are a reasonable size to eat. Farthest Corners is now assisting villagers with the breeding of pigs which are as strong as their small black pig but grow four times faster. Please stay tuned to our blog to learn more about this project.
Rabbit Project
Rabbits are seen by many villagers as a great alternative meat because they rapidly reproduce, grow fast and can eat food found in the jungle and paddy fields. We are now teaching villagers how to raise and breed the rabbits in an optimal way in order for the people to have more nutrition in their diet.
