Chin State

Since 2007 a certain type of bamboo which flowers and produces fruit once every 50 years began to bloom. This has resulted in large rat populations increasing wherever this type of bamboo flourishes. Once these rats have eaten the bamboo fruit they rapidly reproduce and then move in droves of thousands clearing entire rice fields in one night.

This infestation will cause a need for rice for at least 5 more years in Chin State. Working with our friends and networks already established there, we continue to provide resources for the people who are suffering from this famine.
